EUGENE, Ore. – Senior
Kaitlin Smith posted a pair of personal bests and totaled 3,309 points through four events after the first day of the heptathlon and finds herself in 17
th place at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday.
Smith began the day with 1,027 points from the 100 meter hurdles thanks to a time of 13.66 and then added 806 points in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.66m/5-5.25. She then set new PR marks in the following two events, posting a mark of 11.38m/37-4 in the shot put and a time of 25.34 in the 200 meters for 620 and 856 points, respectively.
She is currently in 17
th place, just three points out from earning All-America distinction by finishing in the top 16.
Smith will conclude the heptathlon with the final three events, the long jump, javelin and 800 meters, on Saturday with the long jump beginning at 1:00 p.m. CST.
