WESTLAKE, Ohio – HBU junior linebacker
Brennan Young has been selected to the Football Championship Subdivision Athletic Directors Association (FCS ADA) Academic All-Star Team, the organization announced Thursday.
Young recorded a 3.70 grade point average as a marketing major. The Conroe, Texas, native started all four games, ranking third in the Southland Conference and 11
th in the FCS with 10.5 tackles per game. In the season opener against North Texas, he made eight stops, including one TFL, and forced a fumble. He then made 13 tackles and had a quarterback hurry against Texas Tech and had 13 more against Louisiana Tech. Young had eight tackles in HBU's win over Eastern Kentucky.
In 2019, Young led the Southland Conference and ranked fifth nationally with 11.3 tackles per game to earn HERO Sports Sophomore All-America honors and was named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Team. He totaled 124 tackles, 10 TFLs, one sack and two interceptions. He made nine tackles and had two interceptions for 49 yards in a win over Northwestern State, earning SLC Defensive Player of the Week honors and becoming only the second Husky to record two interceptions in a game. Young already ranks fourth in HBU history with 221 tackles.
Young is HBU's second FCS ADA Academic All-Star, joining defensive end Andre Walker, who earned the honor last year. Young was also one of four selections from the Southland to make the 54-member team.
Football players from all FCS institutions are eligible for the award. Each of the nominees are required to have a minimum GPA of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale in undergraduate study and have been a starter or key player with legitimate athletics credentials. They must have reached their second year of athletics and academic standing at the nominated institution and have completed a minimum of one full academic year at the nominated institution.
