FRISCO, Texas – HCU's
Tyran Chappell and
Xai'Shaun Edwards, both redshirt freshmen, were selected to the All-Southland Conference First Team, announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning, for the 2025 football season.
Chappell, a cornerback from Denton, Texas, finished with four interceptions in 11 games played to tie for the conference-lead in picks. In total, he recorded 11 passes defended (interceptions and breakups) to tie for the league-lead with one pass defended per game. Among his four interceptions, which ties for most in a single season at HCU, was a pick-six against Northern Colorado that he returned 82 yards for a score. The redshirt freshman added 27 tackles for the season, including a career-high seven against UNC.
Edwards set a new program record for single-season rushing as he became the program's first-ever 1,000-yard rusher, finishing the season with 1,019 yards and scoring a single-season record 12 rushing touchdowns to lead the conference in both categories. He ended the year ranked 16
th in the country in rushing yards and 23
rd in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 117.83 total yards per game. He also posted the second-highest single-game total in HCU history with 214 yards against Northwestern State.
Chappell and Edwards were two of the six total freshmen to be selected among the 61 total all-conference selections.
