FB: HCU Trio Sweeps Southland Conference Weekly Awards

Anderson, Smolen and Stewart honored for Week 0 performances

FRISCO, Texas – HCU's Jayven Anderson, Lukasz Smolen and Cutter Stewart swept the Southland Conference's first round of weekly awards for their standout Week 0 performances in the Huskies' 34-28 upset win over No. 19/20 Southeastern, announced by the league office on Monday morning.

Named SLC Defensive Player of the Week, Anderson was a menace throughout the night, finishing with nine total tackles that included six tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble and a blocked field goal. The next highest TFL total in the nation was four during the first round of games this past week.

Stewart, meanwhile, was named SLC Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a game-high and career-high 95 yards on 15 carries while also tossing a pair of touchdown passes and completing 10-of-18 passes for 173 yards. Five of his 10 completions were for at least 15 yards with a long off 66 yards on a touchdown pass to Jamaal Hall II.

Smolen picked up the SLC Special Teams Player of the Week award after doing double duty in the Huskies' opener, going a perfect 2-for-2 on field goal attempts from 30 and 32 yards. He was 4-for-4 on PATs. Smolen also punted twice in the win, averaging 44.5 yards per punt.
