FB: Anderson Named Stats Perform National Defensive Player of the Week

The HCU linebacker had a monster game in the Huskies’ upset of No. 19/20 SLU

HOUSTON – HCU linebacker Jayven Anderson was announced as the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week following his outstanding performance in the Huskies' Week 0 34-28 win over No. 19/20 Southeastern Louisiana last Thursday.

Anderson and the Huskies went into Strawberry Stadium and upset the Lions to open the 2026 campaign with an upset victory in Southland Conference play. Anderson registered an impressive six tackles for loss, the most by any player across all divisions of NCAA football, for 19 yards. His six TFLs were counted among his nine total tackles with one of them a seven-yard sack. Anderson also blocked a field goal attempt and forced one fumble in the win.

Thursday was Anderson's first game playing linebacker after spending his previous three collegiate seasons as a safety.

Anderson becomes the program's first Stats Perform National Player of the Week since placekicker Dillon Fedor was named Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 7, 2024 after going five-of-five on field goal attempts and totaling 19 points in HCU's upset win over No. 22 McNeese.
