Hudson Hall and
Garrett Gibson improved upon their own program records in the pole vault and the 400 meter hurdles, respectively, on Wednesday at the NCAA West Prelims held at E.B. Cushing Stadium on the Texas A&M campus.
Hall, whose previous program record and PR mark was 5.21m/17-1.0, entered the prelims tied for the 42
nd best mark in the west region. On Wednesday, the senior raised his PR and record mark by more than five inches with a top height of 5.35m/17-6.50 to place 18
th among the 48 competitors.
The 400h was Gibson's second event of the day and an event he entered with a school record time of 51.73. He proceeded to come on strong late and improve upon that top time by nearly four-tenths of a second, finishing in 51.36 and missing out on qualifying for Friday's quarterfinals by one-thousandth of a second. He placed fourth in his heat with the top three earning automatic qualification to the next round.
In the long jump, freshman
Isaiah Cash placed 35
th with a top leap of 7.26m/23-10.0 while sophomore
Christopher Welch jumped 7.03m/23-3.75 and placed 41
st.
Back on the track in the 110 meter hurdles, senior
Denim Rogers finished fifth in his flight with a time of 14.10, placing 37th overall while Gibson ran a 14.19, finishing 39th.
On Thursday, May 27, HBU's
Kaitlin Smith will be the lone Husky competing with the senior first entered in the long jump at 3:00 p.m. and then the 100 meter hurdles at 6:00 p.m.
