Final Results
HUMBLE, Texas – Junior
Jessica Rabius won gold in the 800 meters and the HBU track & field men's and women's teams both either matched their best team score or exceeded it on the final day of the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships on Sunday at Turner Stadium.
Rabius ran a PR time of 2:11.0 to win a photo finish in the 800 meter finals, edging out SFA's LaSean Davis by one-hundredth of a second.
Kaitlin Smith, meanwhile, picked up points in three different events beginning with a bronze medal performance in the 100 meter hurdles, finishing in 13.57. The senior then placed fourth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.49 with teammate
Ashlyn Dobson coming in sixth, crossing the finish line in 1:02.32. Smith's final point of the day came in the high jump, clearing 1.65m/5.50 and placing eighth.
Garrett Gibson picked up points for the Huskies with a seventh place finish in the 110h, finishing in 15.92. In the women's discus,
Victoria Herpin qualified for the finals and placed ninth overall with a top mark of 40.78m/133-9.
As a team, the HBU women finished eighth overall and matched the program's highest point total at an SLC outdoor championships with 36 points. The men totaled 46.5 points, the highest total in program history since joining the SLC, and placed ninth as a team.
Next up for the Huskies will be those who qualify for the NCAA West Prelims taking part in the regional meet being hosted at Texas A&M's E.B. Cushing Stadium and held from May 26-29.
