AUSTIN, Texas – Senior
Kaitlin Smith, in only her second time competing in the 400 meter hurdles, set a new program record in the event to highlight day two of the Texas Invitational at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Saturday for the HBU track & field program.
Smith stamped her name in the HBU record books once again with her 400h time of 1:00.43, giving the senior six program records across indoor and outdoor competition. Teammate
Ashlyn Dobson also set a new PR in the event, finishing in 1:01.86. In the men's 400h,
Garrett Gibson placed fifth with a time of 52.58.
Two more PRs for the Huskies came in the pole vault. Senior
Hudson Hall put up the team's top mark, clearing 5.01m/16-5.25 while
Scott Boon and
Jorg Vanlierde each set new personal bests of 4.81m/15-9.25. In the women's shot put,
Victoria Herpin posted a top distance of 12.88m/42-3.25.
Smith also ran the 100h, finishing in 13.78 while
Denim Rogers put up a time of 14.20 in the 110h, placing fourth, third among collegians.
Jessica Rabius and
Travis Jacobs each placed seventh in their respective 800 meter races with Rabius crossing in 2:14.26 and Jacobs posting a time of 1:54.60. Dobson, Smith, Rabius and
Zara Richardson teamed up in the 4x400 relay to record the program's best time in the event so far this season, finishing in 3:54.75.
The Huskies will have their final meet of the outdoor season before the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships next weekend when they return to College Station, Texas to take part in the Aggie Invitational hosted by Texas A&M on Saturday, May 8.
