HOUSTON –
Garrett Gibson,
Johanna Drews,
Jessica Rabius and
Kaitlin Smith all set new program records on Saturday at the Rice J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet as the HBU men's and women's track & field team made a strong showing.
In the 400 meter hurdles, junior
Garrett Gibson broke his own program record by nearly four tenths of a second, finishing in 51.73 and placing fourth. In the 110 meter hurdles, Gibson finished second with a time of 14.28.
Junior
Johanna Drews, meanwhile, ran a school record time of 11:26.42 and placed seventh. In the women's 1500 meters,
Jessica Rabius shaved more than three second off her personal best to set a new program record thanks to a mark of 4:30.44.
Senior
Kaitlin Smith set the fourth new school record of the day in the long jump with a jump of 6.12m/20-1.0 on her final attempt in the finals and placed fourth. Smith also ran a time of 13.85 in the 100 meter hurdles and finished seventh in the 400 meter hurdles with a mark of 1:01.01.In the long jump,
Christopher Welch posted a top wind-aided leap of 7.82m/25-8.0 to win the event. He also placed second in the triple jump with a mark of 15.01m/49-3.0.
Also in the women's 400h,
Ashlyn Dobson set a new PR of 1:02.10 and finished ninth. In the men's 400h,
Scott Boon ran a PR time of 53.34.
Travis Jacobs, running in the 800 meters, also posted a PR thanks to a time of 1:53.00. Senior
Hudson Hall tied for third in the pole vault, clearing a top height of 4.96m/16-3.25.
HBU next be competing in Austin, Texas at the Texas Invitational on April 30-May 1 at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
