HOUSTON - Closing out a five game home-stretch, the HBU women's soccer team is set for two Southland Conference matchups this weekend at Sorrels Field beginning this Friday against Sam Houston at 7:00 p.m. and ending with a bout versus Stephen F. Austin this Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
The Huskies (2-6-1, 2-4-0 SLC) are looking to make it three in a row in conference play on Friday after a pair of seniors lifted the team to an overtime victory against Abilene Christian last weekend. HBU attempted a season-high 26 shot attempts in their last victory with 11 of those on goal and came back from an early deficit to tie the game on a
Megan Rickert goal with just 10 seconds left in regulation and then win it in overtime with a goal from
Noor Abukishk.
Sam Houston (1-4-1. 1-4-1 SLC) is coming off a 2-0 home loss to ACU this past Tuesday and has lost its last three. The Bearkats are led by a trio of attackers in junior Jade Dewbre, junior Grace Stine and freshman Landri Townsend, who are tied for the most points on the Bearkats with four. Stine is the lone SHSU player with multiple goals, totaling two in a loss to UIW. In goal, junior Abby DeLozier has seen the majority of minutes and boasts a 1.36 goals against average.
Stephen F. Austin (6-4-2, 4-2-0 SLC) sits third in the SLC standings after dropping both matches on a Louisiana road trip against Southeastern Louisiana and Northwestern State. The Lumberjacks have been led in SLC play by a pair of seniors with Carli Arthurs scoring a team-best four goals while Morgan Wessling has scored three, including a brace in a win at Nicholls. SFA will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi before making their way to play the Huskies.
Sunday's game will be Senior Day with a special recognition ceremony prior to the start of the game. HBU will close the regular season with four road games beginning on Thursday, Mar. 25, across town against Rice at 7:00 p.m.
