COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Denim Rogers and Christopher Welch both picked up event wins on Saturday at the Colorado Running Company UCCS Open.

Rogers, who ended day one of the heptathlon in first place with 3,078 points, won two of the three events on day two and posted the best indoor pole vault mark of his career. The senior won the 60 meter hurdles by more than three-tenths of a second with a time of 8.16 for 942 points to open day two. He then cleared 4.55m/14-11.0 to win the pole vault and add 775 points to his total. He then closed the day with 640 points in the 1,000 meters with a time of 3:02.48. He won the event with 5,435 points.

Welch, meanwhile, won the triple jump by nearly three feet. The junior posted his top jump of day on his second attempt when he reached 15.93m/52-3.25, setting a new facility record. That mark is just under eight inches shy of his top mark this season but still more than five feet better than the next best jump in the Southland Conference this season.

The Huskies track and field team will next compete at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1.
