HOUSTON – The HBU women's soccer team will aim to build on a pair of strong performances last weekend, earning a tie on the road at Northwestern State and an overtime win over UIW when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Sorrels Field on Thursday before playing at UIW on Sunday.
Thursday marks the beginning of the second half of the Southland Conference schedule for the Huskies (2-7-3, 2-2-2 SLC), facing each opponent for the second time the rest of the way. HBU played the Islanders (4-6-2, 2-2-2 SLC) in Corpus Christi on Sep. 10, tying 1-1 with
Avery Cortez scoring for the Huskies and
Karla Ramirez making a career-high nine saves.

Ryan Ford is coming off the first SLC Offensive Player of the Week honor of her career after playing a role in the team's three goals in two games last week, scoring once and assisting on the other two.
The Islanders fell 3-1 in their lone matchup last week, a Friday, Oct. 1, visit to face UIW (2-9-1, 2-4-0 SLC). They're led offensively by Samantha Palomino with four goals and two assists on the season. In goal, Kennedy Stelling has started 10 of the team's games and sports a 1.51 goals against average with a save percentage of .828.
For UIW, Sunday's game against the Huskies will make it back-to-back matchups with HBU. The Huskies scored in the eighth minute this past Sunday and then picked up a golden goal win with just one second left in the first overtime. Sierra Wannamaker is the lone Cardinal with more than one goal scored this season, finding the net twice.
HBU will aim to remain undefeated against TAMUCC with a 6-0-3 all-time record. The last two meetings both resulted in 1-1 ties. The Huskies are now 7-2-0 all-time against UIW.
Following the game at UIW, HBU will remain on the road for the next three games beginning on Thursday, Oct. 14 against Nicholls in Thibodaux, La.
