WSOC: Final Road Game of the Season Awaits Huskies in Lake Charles

HBU visits McNeese before closing the regular season at home against Northwestern State

LAKE CHARLES, La. – So far this season the HBU women's soccer team is undefeated in the state of Louisiana, boasting a 2-0-1 record, and will aim to keep it that way on Friday evening when they Huskies play their final road game of the 2021 regular season against the McNeese Cowgirls at Cowgirls Field at 7:00 p.m.
 
In three matches in the Pelican State this year, the Huskies (5-8-3, 5-3-2 SLC) earned a 1-1 tie at SLC leader Northwestern State and this past week picked up a pair of wins, defeating Nicholls, 3-0, before downing Southeastern, 2-1.
 
In the first meeting between the Huskies and the Cowgirls (10-4-2, 7-2-1 SLC) at Sorrels Field, the game was tied at the half but McNeese scored the game-winner in the 66th minute. Sophomore Evelyn Slaughter scored HBU's lone goal in the 41st minute with an assist from Ryan Ford off a free kick in the loss.
 
HBU heads into Friday's matchup with the reigning SLC Offensive Player of the Week Katie Marker firing on all cylinders in conference play. The sophomore is third in the league in conference play with 11 points on three goals and five assists. Her five assists against SLC competition is tied for first with teammate Ryan Ford. In goal against conference opponents, keeper Karla Ramirez ranks in the top three in the league in save percentage (.839), saves per game (5.2), goals against average (.947) and shutouts (3).
 
Sophomore Rachel Young leads the McNeese offense with seven goals and two assists on the year, all in conference play and primarily coming off the bench. No other player on the Cowgirls' roster has scored more than two goals. As a team this year, McNeese has out-scored its opponents 35 to 12.
 
The Huskies' final match of the regular season will be at Sorrels Field against the Northwestern State Lady Demons at 7:00 p.m on Tuesday, Oct. 26. There will be a special Senior Night recognition prior to the start of the game.
