WBB: HBU Announces 2020-21 Schedule

Huskies begin with a cross-town matchup against the Rice Owls.

2020-21 HBU Women's Basketball Schedule

HOUSTON - HBU women's basketball head coach Donna Finnie announced the long awaited basketball 2020-2021 season schedule, which will begin with a drive across town to Rice on Nov. 25.

"It has been very challenging putting together a schedule this year but we are thrilled to have the opportunity to play," said Finnie. "We know that this schedule is subject to change, but our team will appreciate every opportunity we have to compete and give 100% when we do get out there on the floor."

December begins with three home games, facing Arlington Baptist on Saturday, Dec. 5, and finishes with McMurry on Saturday, Dec. 12, and LeTourneau on Monday, Dec. 14. The Huskies then head west to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon on Saturday, Dec. 19.

"I'm glad we could get Rice on schedule," Finnie said. "Tina Langley has done a tremendous job with that program and it's a great challenge for our girls against the C-USA champs. Our first time facing Grand Canyon in Phoenix will be challenging as they have a very strong new staff and some key transfers which will make them a tough closer before we start conference play."

Southland play will begin with a home game against Northwestern State (Jan. 2), an away game against Abilene Christian (Jan. 6), then right back home to face Lamar (Jan. 9). The Huskies double up on away games to Sam Houston (Jan. 16) and Nicholls (Jan. 20), before back-to-back home games against McNeese (Jan. 23) and UIW (Jan. 27). January wraps up with a trip to play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Jan. 30).

The Huskies begin February on the road for a second game to Northwestern State (Feb. 6) and back home to host Abilene Christian (Feb. 10). HBU hits the road to face Lamar (Feb. 13), then back-to-back home games to Sam Houston (Feb. 20) and Nicholls (Feb. 24), and ends the month with a trip to Lake Charles at McNeese (Feb. 27). The Huskies wrap up regular conference play with an away game at UIW (Mar. 3) and host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Mar. 6).

Finnie added, "Southland play is going to be very different this year for many reasons but with a lot of teams losing big senior classes this past year, I expect there will be more parity in the league. I look forward to a very competitive January through March in our conference."

The Southland Conference Tournament will be held March 11-14 at the Merrell Center in Katy, Texas.
