WBB: Huskies Dominate in Home Opener

HCU gets a bounce back win at home versus LeTourneau

HOUSTON --- Houston Christian University opened up the home portion of the 2026-27 schedule with a convincing 80-45 victory over LeTourneau University on Wednesday morning in Sharp Gymnasium. HCU took control early, then used a blistering second quarter to put the game out of reach, cruising to their first victory of the season.

A Nikki Stanic three-pointer kicked off a game-opening 9-0 run for the Huskies, but the YellowJackets rallied with a nine-point run of their own to knot the score. HCU then took the lead for good on a Sadie Hall three-ball with 2:30 remaining in the quarter and took a four-point edge, 16-12 at the end of one.

HCU then found a spark in the second period. The Huskies found their stride on offense, gonig 4-7 from the arc while clamping down on defense to burst out of the second half gates with a big run.

While limiting the Yellowjackets to just two points over the first eight minutes, the Huskies gradualy pulled away. Remy Hearn highlighted the spurt, putting together a three-minute, 10-point outburst that gave the Huskies a 30-point cushion, 44-14 with just over two minutes left in the half. HCU would head to the intermission with a comfortable 47-25 advantage.

HCU would cruise in the second half, pushing the lead back to 30, 57-27 on a tip-in from Veronika Korchagina with 3:41 left in the third and the visitors got no closer than 26 the rest of the way.

The Huskies shot 47.6% for the day, including nearly 38% from the three-point line. HCU forced 28 LeTourneau turnovers that led to 25 points while also claiming a huge edge on the backboards 45-21.

Remy Hearn led a balanced offensive attack for the Huskies (1-0) with 12 points while nabbing three steals. Nikki Stanic and Dasia Hyams each scored 11 points while J'Lee Salinas came off the bench for nine points on 3-7 shooting from the arc. Sidney Carr had eight points and five boards and Emelie Lindqvist also had eight points to go with four boards. Pearson Hearne led all players with seven rebounds while Basan Orsak had a game-high six assists.

Sadie Franklin had nine points and Katelyn Dudley added eight points and six rebounds in the losing effort for LeTourneau.

HCU returns to action again on Friday evening when it hosts Abilene Christian University. Tip-off in Sharp Gym is scheduled for 6 pm and the game will be streamed on ESPN+.
