HOUSTON – HCU women's basketball opens the 2026-27 home portion of its schedule on Wednesday morning inside Historic Sharp Gym with a visit from the LeTourneau YellowJackets for an 11:00 a.m. tip-off.
Fifth-year Jordan Jackson and sophomore
Dasia Hyams both highlighted the Huskies' (0-1) squad in the team's season-opening loss on Monday at Rice, opening the season with seven points and five rebounds each.
The Huskies hosted the YellowJackets on Nov. 18 last season and dispatched the visitors with a 100-37 win. Hyams finished that game with 13 points while
Veronika Korchagina scored a career-high 12 points with 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her collegiate career. HCU out-rebounded LeTourneau, 46-23, in the win and shot 54.2 percent (39-of-72) from the floor as a team. The Huskies also forced 27 turnovers in the game while committing just seven giveaways.
The YellowJackets are coming off a 5-20 season in 2025-2026 and return their second-leading scorer, Mariana Espinosa, who averaged 11.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg, which led the team. Espinosa led the YellowJackets when the two teams met last season, finishing with 10 points and five rebounds.
HCU is 3-0 all-time against the YellowJackets, having also earned wins in Sharp Gym during the 2017-18 and 2020-21 seasons.
The Huskies will get right back to it as they wrap up a busy first week of games, hosting Abilene Christian on Friday, Nov. 6, in Sharp Gym at 6:00 p.m.
