WSOC: HBU Suffers 1-0 Loss at Niagara

Goalkeeper Ashtyn Franks makes five saves for the Huskies

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara found the net in the 43rd minute for the lone goal of the match as the HBU women's soccer team came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 decision at Niagara Field on Sunday afternoon.

HBU (1-4-0) got a pair of good looks at the goal in the early-going with Tayah Reynolds putting a shot off the crossbar during the third minute followed by a Whitney Johnson attempt off the rebound that was stopped by Niagara (4-1-0) keeper Sabrina Locas. Niagara put a couple of shots off target in the fifth and sixth minutes before Noor Abukishk had a shot stopped at the 10:50 mark.

The Purple Eagles got on the board in the 43rd minute when Veda Hensel found the net off the rebound of a Bayley Sullivan shot off the crossbar. Johnson put another shot on target in the 44th minute but was again stopped by Locas.

In the second half, the HBU attack picked up in the 80th minute when an Abukishk shot rebounded off the crossbar and Catalina Elwonger's shot to the bottom left of the goal was saved. Niagara had a breakaway opportunity during the 86th minute but Ashtyn Frank came up with the save to keep the game within reach for the Huskies.

Niagara held a six to four advantage in shots on goal while attempting 18 total shots to the Huskies' 11. The Purple Eagles also earned six corner kicks while HBU earned two. Franks finished the match with five saves in goal for the Huskies while Johnson led the team with four shot attempts and two shots on goal.

HBU will return home for the final two non-conference games of the season beginning this Thursday, Sept. 12, against TCU at 7:00 p.m.
