HUNTSVILLE, Texas – After opening the 2019 Southland Conference schedule on the road at Abilene Christian, HBU women's soccer will remain away from home for its next two by visiting Sam Houston State and Stephen F. Austin this weekend.
The Huskies (1-7-0, 0-1-0 SLC) take on the Bearkats (3-5-0, 1-0-0 SLC) at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 27, at SHSU's Pritchett Field. Then, on Sunday, Sept. 29, HBU will be in Nacogdoches, Texas to take on SFA (3-5-0, 0-1-0 SLC) at the SFA Soccer Field with kick-off at 1:00 p.m.
Sam Houston State started the year 1-5-0 but has won the last two, downing Prairie View A&M 1-0 on the road and opening conference play with a 3-2 overtime victory over Central Arkansas. In that win over the Bears, SHSU trailed 2-0 before scoring a pair in the final 20 before winning in the first extra period. Junior midfielder Courtney Pawlik leads the Bearkats with seven points on two goals and three assists. In goal, Abby DeLozier and Tatum Krueger have split time with both allowing eight goals each over eight matches.
SFA is in the midst of an eight-game homestand, most recently falling to Northwestern State, 1-0, last weekend. The Ladyjacks are 3-3 on their home turf this season. Juniors Katelyn Termini and Sophia Fondren lead SFA with three goals and three assists apiece while Mattie Musser has also scored thrice. Senior goalkeeper Allyson Halliday boasts the second-best goals against average in the conference at 1.363 and has played every minute in goal for the Ladyjacks.

Ashtyn Franks leads the SLC with 43 total saves and her 5.38 saves per game rank third in the league. Offensively,
Xya Balderas and
Avery Cortez have each scored three goals while
Noor Abukishk leads the team with two assists.
HBU currently owns a six-match unbeaten streak against SHSU, posting a 2-0-4 record in that span and having won the last two played in Huntsville. All-time, HBU is 4-4-4 against the Bearkats and 4-8-0 against SFA.
HBU will return to Sorrels Field for the next three matches after this weekend, hosting Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, Oct. 4, and Nicholls on Sunday, Oct. 6.
