BSB: Huskies Take Game Three of Triple-Header in Corpus

CORPUS CHRISTI- HBU Baseball played 21 innings on Saturday as they concluded play of suspended game one and followed with game two and three as there was rain in the forecast for Sunday. The Islanders took game one by a score of 6-2 and game two by a score of 9-7. The Huskies took the final game of the series 14-0 in eight innings.

Game one: After a solo homerun by senior catcher Erik Voller to dead center, and two more Huskies reaching base play was suspended due to fog on Friday night. When play resumed Saturday afternoon the Huskies came up to bat with runners on first and second with one out in a 1-1 game. The Huskies were able to push one across in the top of the seventh after a double steal moved the runners to second and third and a fielder's choice from Chase Talbot to bring in Nathan Soriano. The Islander's were able to plate four runs in the bottom half of the seventh after two walks and an infield single loaded the bases for Marbach. Marbach split the gap in right center for a bases clearing triple. The Islander's added one more in the eighth to take the game 6-2.

Voller finished 1-3 with a solo homerun followed by Trent Franson going 1-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Nathan Soriano reached twice by walk and added a stolen base that led to his run scored in the seventh.

J.T. Newton (0-4) got the loss on the mound for the Huskies giving up four runs on three hits and two walks in one inning pitched. Brady Batten got the start going six innings before the fog delay cut his day short only surrendering one run on two hits and six walks.

Game two: A back and forth game that saw both teams scoring in the same inning four times not allowing the other to put the game away. Through 5 innings the Huskies had a 4-3 lead and it was nearing the time for each respective bullpens to take over the game. In the top of the sixth Erik Voller homered for the second time of the series  driving in Ryne Edmondson to push the HBU lead to 6-3. The Islander's answered by pushing one run across on a single by Jeffries IV. HBU was blanked in the seventh before Texas A&M Corpus Christi plated three to take their first lead of the game. Anderson doubled to left and after an errant throw that rolled into the HBU dugout Anderson came all the way around to score. The Islander's Itchty Burts homered in the eighth to push the lead to 9-6 for Texas A&M Corpus Christi. The Huskies were able to plate one in the ninth off a Brandon Bena sac fly, but the rally was thwarted as they fell 9-7.

The Huskies were led by Erik Voller at the plate in game to with him going 1-2 with two walks and two RBI's. Johnny Gonzalez added a 2-5 performance driving in a run and scoring once. Anthony Jones followed them with a 2-3 day with a double and drove in a pair. Brandon Bena had a two RBI day going 1-4 with a sac fly.
