HOUSTON, Texas – HBU earned four first-place finishes on Saturday as the Huskies' track & field teams took part in the Houston Alumni Invitational hosted by the University of Houston at the Carl Lewis International Complex.
Freshman
Christopher Welch picked up a win in the triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 15.73m/51-7.25 while senior
Tay Nance won on the women's side with a wind-aided leap of 12.80m/42-0.0.
Denim Rogers, meanwhile, set a new PR in the men's long jump with a top distance of 7.06m/23-2.0.
In throws, HBU women took the top four spots in the javelin.
Christal Dickson took first with a PR of 38.92m/127-8.0, followed by
Hannah McNaughton's PR of 37.47m/122-11.0,
Kaitlin Smith's PR of 37.33m/122-6.0 and
Ana Kriletic's 36.88m121-00.
Jemira Thomlinson boasted the top throw for the Huskies in the hammer throw with a mark of 46.10m/151-3.0 while
Chantel Ward set a new PR of 42.73m/140-2.0.
Salome Brugier cleared a height of 3.10m/10-2.0 in the pole vault, setting a new program record in the event. Junior
Dennise Reyes set a new PR in the high jump with a height of 1.47m/4-9.75.
On the track, freshman
Josh Moran crossed the finish line in 8:54.85 to take first place while
Enoch Ramirez came in third with a time of 9:08.02 followed by
Stephen Aguilar in 9:11.59.
Garrett Gibson took first in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 54.34, winning by more than two seconds.
Rogers posted a third place finish in the 110 meter hurdles with a wind-aided time of 14.23 followed by Gibson in fourth with a wind-aided mark of 14.51. In the women's 200 meter dash, freshman
Roxane Adama posted a PR of 25.47.
The Huskies will next travel to Natchitoches, La. next weekend to the site of the 2019 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the NSU Invitational hosted by Northwestern State on Saturday, Apr. 13.
