AZUSA, Calif. – On Thursday at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Multi Events,
Denim Rogers accumulated 7,504 points to win his group by 149 points and set a new HBU program record in the decathlon at APU's Cougar Athletic Stadium.
Day two of the decathlon opened with the 110 meter hurdles, an event in which Rogers picked up his highest individual event point total with 936 points thanks to a mark of 14.30. The discus throw followed with Rogers posting a top distance of 36.23m/118-10.0, picking up 588 points.
Rogers then set a new PR in the pole vault, clearing 4.60m/15-1.0 to tie for fifth in the event and add 790 points to his total. He followed with 560 points in the javelin with a top throw of 48.07m/157-8.0 before finishing the 1500 meters in 4:45.20 for 648 points.
After starting the day second in the group with 3,982 points he added 3,522 on day two for his 7,504. That was good to break the program record of 7,207 set by freshman
Scott Boon earlier this spring at the Texas Relays.
Prior to the Bryan Clay Invitational, only six NCAA Division I decathletes had totaled at least 7,500 points this season.
