AZUSA, Calif. – HBU's
Denim Rogers currently stands second in his group in the decathlon through five events on Wednesday at the Azusa Pacific Bryan Clay Multi Events held at Cougar Athletic Stadium and is ninth among collegians out of 59 total competitors.
Rogers has totaled 3,982 points through five events which is more than 200 more than he had amassed to this point at the Texas Relays earlier this season. He opened the event with a third-place showing in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 10.84 and earning 897 points. Following that, Rogers picked up 823 points in the long jump, coming up less than an inch short of a PR with a jump of 7.04m/23-1.25.
He then picked up 562 points in the shot put with a top throw of 11.27m/37-11.75 before setting a new PR in the high jump, clearing 2.02m/6-7.50 for 822 points and tying for third. In the day's final event, the 400 meters, Rogers also posted a new PR with a time of 48.64 to win his group and gain 878 points. He trails group leader Zachary Lorbeck, from Wisconsin, by less than 100 points.
Rogers will close out the Bryan Clay Multi Events on Thursday, Apr. 18, afternoon in Azusa with Rogers' group beginning with the 110 meter hurdles at 1:00 p.m.
