AUSTIN, Texas – Just 16 points separate
Scott Boon and
Denim Rogers in the decathlon standings through the first five events at the 92
nd Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays with Boon currently in eighth place and Rogers in 10
th.
Boon amassed 3,794 points on day one while Rogers totaled 3,778. Both picked up their highest point total of the day in the opening event, the 100 meter dash. Rogers won the race with a PR time of 10.77 with Boon posting a time of 11.14, also a PR. Next up was the long jump with Boon reaching 7.04m/23-1.25 and Rogers jumping 6.95m/22-9.75.
Boon then recorded the eighth-best mark in the shot put with a toss of 12.70m/41-8.0 while Rogers top distance was 11.51m/37-9.25. The two Huskies were then even in the high jump, clearing matching heights of 1.86m/6-1.25. In the final event of the day, the 400 meters, Boon and Rogers finished back-to-back in fifth and sixth with times of 50.03 and 50.14, respectively.
Arkansas' Gabe Moore leads the decathlon with a total of 4,150 points.
Boon and Rogers will be back in action on Thursday, Mar. 28, with the first of the day's five events beginning at 10:00 a.m. Also competing for the Huskies on Thursday will be
Shantelle Slaughter and
Garrett Gibson, running in the 400 meter hurdles with the women's prelims set for 4:30 p.m. and the men following at 5:00 p.m.
