HOUSTON – Four different Huskies picked up wins on Saturday at Durley Stadium on day two of the 68
th Annual TSU Relays with sophomore
Kaitlin Smith setting a new 100 meter hurdles PR in her victory.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Smith posted a new PR in the 100 meter hurdles finals, placing first with a time of 14.57 while
Dennise Reyes finished seventh, crossing the finish line in 15.56. In the women's 100 meter dash finals,
Dominique Lacy and
Ariel White placed fifth and sixth, respectively, with times of 12.94 and 12.96.
In the hammer throw,
Jemira Thomlinson took first with a top throw of 45.25m/148-5 with
Imani Jacquet right behind at 45.05m/147-10 to place second. On the men's side,
Jacob Bowers was second with a distance 34.96m/114-88.
The Huskies' two women's relay teams competing on Saturday both recorded first place finishes.
Brandy Thomas,
Shantelle Slaughter,
Roxane Adama and
Joelonce Hubbard won the 4x400 with a time of 3:58.25 while Adama, Hubbard, Reyes and
Tay Nance crossed in 48.28 to win the 4x100 by one-hundredth of a second.
In the men's relays, the team of
David Racine,
Noah Powell,
Garrett Gibson and
Sergio Rivera Gonzalez placed fifth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:19.50. In the 4x100, Powell, Racine,
Justin Carmouche and
Christopher Welch teamed up to finish in 42.62 to also place fifth.
Freshman
Johanna Drews finished less than two seconds behind the winner in the 1500 meters to place second with a time of 4:52.46. On the men's side,
Christos Zachariou took third in the 1500m with a mark of 3:58.16.
The Huskies will be back at it next Friday and Saturday, Mar. 22-23, on the Rice University campus for the Victor Lopez Classic held at the Ley Track.
