DALLAS - Dallas Baptist shut down HBU's offense, sweeping a non-conference baseball doubleheader, 7-1 and 2-1, Friday at Horner Ballpark.
Junior rightfielder
Brandon Bena went 2-for-3 with an RBI and junior first baseman
Johnny Gonzales went 2-for-4 for the Huskies (4-6) in game one. Junior second baseman
Trent Franson doubled and scored.
Senior righthander
Zach Carter (1-1) took the loss, allowing four runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and a walk in six innings.
Jackson Glenn went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair or runs, while Hunter Vansau went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Patriots (7-3). Augie Isaacson went 2-for-4 and scored twice and Bryce Ball homered.
Jordan Martinson (2-0) earned the win, allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts and a walk in seven innings, while Kragen Kechely picked up the save, shutting HBU out on two hits over the final two innings.
DBU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first when Evan Sandmann doubled and Glenn drove him in with a single up the middle.
HBU tied it in the third when Franson doubled and came home on Bena's sacrifice fly.
Bell homered to left to put the Patriots back on top and spark a three-run inning. DBU tacked on three more in the eighth.
In the second game, Bena doubled and scored for the Huskies, with Gonzales going 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Junior righthander
Kyle Gruller took another no-decision in an outstanding performance, holding DBU to one run on four hits with eight strikeouts and a walk in 6.2 innings. Senior
JT Newton (0-1) took the loss, allowing one run on one hit in 1.1 innings.
Isaacson went 2-for-3 and scored a run, while Bell once again drove in the go-ahead run for the Patriots.
Luke Eldred took a no-decision, giving up one run on three hits with seven strikeouts and a walk in six innings. Jarod Bayless (1-0) picked up the win, holding the Huskies without a run or a hit and striking out three over the final 2.2 innings.
Isaacson led off the third with a double for DBU, then scored on wild pitch.
The Huskies answered in the top of the fourth when Bena ripped a double off the top of the leftfield wall and Gonzales followed with an RBI single to left.
HBU loaded the bases with one out in the seventh, but Bayless came in and got DBU out of the jam.
In the eighth, Sandmann led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch and took third when Glenn beat out a potential double play ball at first. Ball followed with a sacrifice fly for the decisive tally.
