Brennan Young earned honorable mention as HERO Sports announced its Freshman and Sophomore Football All-America Teams Tuesday.
Fluellen was a finalist for the Jerry Rice Award, which honors the top freshman in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS). The Gilmer, Texas, native ranked eighth in the Southland Conference with 8.4 tackles per game, totaling 101 stops, six pass breakups, two interceptions, three fumble recoveries and a forced fumble. Fluellen made 15 tackles and the game-sealing interception in a 53-52 victory at South Dakota. In the season finale against Sam Houston State, he made 14 tackles, broke up two passes, forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
Young led the Southland Conference and ranked fifth nationally with 11.3 tackles per game, totaling 124 stops on the season, 10 tackles for loss and two interceptions. The Conroe, Texas, native recorded double-digit tackles seven times, including tying the school record with 19 against Southeastern Louisiana and had 17 at McNeese. Young made nine tackles and recorded a pair of interceptions in a win over Northwestern State, only the second multi-interception game by a single player in program history.
