FRISCO, Texas – HCU running back
Xai'Shaun Edwards earned Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week while punter
Brady Young was named Special Teams Player of the Week following their performances in the Huskies' 20-17 win over Northwestern State on Saturday.
Edwards, a redshirt freshman, rumbled for a career-high 214 yards on 30 carries for the Huskies with a pair of long touchdown runs. Edwards broke touchdown runs of 52 and 47 yards in the win and now has five touchdown runs of at least 30 yards in six games this season. His eight rushing touchdowns are a new school record for a single-season at HCU. Edwards leads the SLC in rushing yards per game, total rushing yards and rushing touchdowns while ranking in the top-15 nationally in each category.
Young, a senior, played a crucial role for the Huskies against the Demons as he totaled 187 yards on four punts with a long of 54. He buried NSU inside their own five-yard line twice, including his 54-yarder that put the Demons at their own five to start a drive with just 3:18 left in the game and the Huskies leading, 20-17.
HCU travels to Lake Charles, La. to take on the McNeese Cowboys this Saturday, Oct. 18, for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff.
