WSOC: HBU Set to Host a Pair of Louisiana Squads

The Huskies welcome Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls to Sorrels Field



HOUSTON – HBU women's soccer will look to pick up its first Southland Conference win this weekend when the Huskies host Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls at Sorrels Field.
 
The Huskies (1-9-0, 0-3-0 SLC) will host the Lady Lions of Southeastern La. (1-8-1, 0-3-0 SLC) on Friday, Oct. 4, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff before the Nicholls Colonels (3-6-1, 0-3-0 SLC) come to town on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1:00 p.m.
 
The Lady Lions have opened conference play with three-consecutive 1-0 defeats, most recently at home versus UIW and Abilene Christian. Junior Nadine Maher has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Lady Lions, owning a 1.77 goals against average and save percentage of .769. Ellie Williams, a freshman forward, leads the way with five points on two goals and one assist.
 
Nicholls also has yet to score a goal through three SLC matches, falling at Lamar and losing to ACU and UIW at home. Blaire Laiche, a senior, leads the team and is tied for third in the conference with six goals scored. Laiche also has one assist to give her 13 points, good for seventh in the league. While splitting time, goalkeeper Roosa Hurmerinta has been the Colonels top goalie with a 1.75 goals against average. The Colonels face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday evening.
 
HBU holds a 7-0-2 record against SLU and a 6-1-0 all-time mark against Nicholls. Avery Cortez and Xya Balderas are tied for the team lead with three goals each while Noor Abukishk has a team-high two assists.
 
The Huskies will remain at home for their next match, the following Friday, Oct. 11, when they host Incarnate Word at 5:00 p.m.
