CONWAY, Ark. – This Friday evening the HBU women's soccer team embarks on its final road trip of the season, first taking on Central Arkansas before moving on to Natchitoches, La. for a Sunday afternoon matchup against the Northwestern State Lady Demons.
On Friday, the Huskies (2-11-0, 1-5-0 SLC) take on the Bears (1-11-1, 0-6-0 SLC) at 7:00 p.m. at the Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex. Then, Sunday's matchup will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. against a Northwestern State (7-6-1, 4-1-1 SLC) team on a three-match unbeaten stretch.
In their lone matchup last week, HBU got a goal and an assist from team points leader
Avery Cortez but ultimately fell to visiting UIW while down a player from the 69
th minute on. The junior now has four goals and two assists on the season.
The Bears enter Friday's matchup on a seven-game losing skid with their last win coming on Sept. 13 against ULM. Senior Connie Awuku-Darkoh leads UCA with four goals and a pair of assists. Overall, the Bears have been out-scored 37-16.
Northwestern State has won its last two matches, most recently downing Sam Houston State at home, 1-0. For the season, the Lady Demons are 4-2-0 at home. In goal, Kayla Bomben and Acelya Aydogmus have split time almost evenly and combined for a 1.51 goals against average. Bomben has allowed just seven goals in eight appearances and six starts.
HBU is currently tied for ninth in the Southland Conference standings, just three points out of eighth. Central Arkansas trails the Huskies, tied for 11
th with 0 points, while Northwestern State is tied for fourth and just two points out of first place in the league.
The regular season closes for the Huskies with a three-game homestand beginning on Friday, Oct. 25, when they host McNeese at Sorrels Field at 7:00 p.m.
