HOUSTON – Having just played two of the first seven games of the season on home turf, the HBU women's soccer team is set for a four-game homestand at Sorrels Field that opens on Friday with the first Southland Conference game of the year against Abilene Christian.
The Huskies (2-5-0) and Wildcats (5-2-0) play Friday, Sep. 14, at 7:00 p.m. on the SLC's opening day of conference play. HBU will then host Texas State (2-5-0) on Sunday, Sep. 16, evening with a 7:00 p.m. kick to close out the Huskies' non-conference schedule.
HBU is coming off a tough weekend in which they fell to North Texas at home by a score of 2-0 and at Texas with a 4-0 final score. UNT and Texas own a combined 11-1-2 record on the season.

Avery Cortez remains the Huskies' leading scorer with three goals while senior
Sabriah Spencer owns a pair of goals. Both players have been very accurate with their shot attempts to this point with Spencer putting 8-of-12 on target and Cortez 6-0f-9. Senior goalkeeper
Alanis Guevara is averaging six saves per game, the 33
rd-highest total in the nation, and her 42 total saves rank in the top-25 among the country's keepers.
ACU, picked to finish third in the league's preseason poll, heads into the matchup having won three-straight with wins over New Mexico State, North Alabama and Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Junior goalkeeper Rachel Johnson owns a 4-1-0 record in goal and sports a .914 save percentage, the 12-best mark in the country. Sophomore Christina Arteaga leads the Wildcats with eight points (three goals, two assists) while senior Dylan Owens also has three goals with one assist.
Texas State (2-5-0) plays ULM at home in their first Sun Belt Conference match of the year on Friday before visiting the Huskies. The Bobcats fell to Texas 2-1 in their last game and hold an 0-2-0 record against SLC opponents, falling to McNeese, 2-1, and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 1-0. Juniors Jordan Kondikoff and Kaylee Davis are the team-leaders with six points each. Davis has three goals on the year while Kondikoff has scored a pair and added two assists. In goal, Kathryn Budde and Heather Martin have split time almost evenly to combine for a 1.26 goals against average and 38 total saves.
Following these two upcoming games, HBU will host Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston state the following weekend.
