BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – HBU's
Kaitlin Smith will compete at the USA Track & Field Junior Nationals in the heptathlon this weekend, June 16-17, at Hayes Track at the Haugh Complex on the campus of Indiana University.
Smith, who hails from Wailuku, Hawaii, saved her best performance for last during her freshman campaign in totaling 4,483 points at the 2018 Southland Conference Outdoor Championships. Her point total eclipsed the previous program record but teammate
Ana Kriletic's total of 4,581 at the same meet stands as the current record. Smith will be the first Husky track athlete to compete at the Junior Nationals since
Tay Nance in 2016.
The USATF Junior Nationals includes athletes age 19 and younger with the top two finishers in each event qualifying for Team USA for the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships.
