SB: HBU Drops a Couple One Run Affairs to SFA

Sierra Humphrey goes 4-for-5 in game one. Kay Shroeder hits homer in game two.




HOUSTON – HBU softball dropped game one 3-2 in 10 innings and fell in game two 2-1 to Stephen F. Austin in Southland Conference action Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.

Game One, 3-2
Freshman rightfielder Sierra Humphrey went 4-for-5 at the plate. Sophomore catcher Heidi Jaquez singled, walked and drove a run in and senior leftfielder doubled and drove in a run. Freshman Amber Lotz singled, walked and scored for the Huskies (7-2, 4-13 SLC).

Freshman Jessica Patak (4-14) got the loss allowing three runs on eight hits, three errors, three walks and three strikeouts in 10 innings.

Centerfielder Madison Clements went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Lady Jacks (23-17, 11-6 SLC), while catcher Taylor Fraccastoro hit a two-run home run. Shortstop Emily Evans and third baseman Amber Landry also scored for SFA.   

Makayla Sikes (14-6) tossed the 10 inning win holding the Huskies to two runs on 10 hits, two errors, two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Recap
With one out in the third inning, Evans walked and advanced to second with a Clement's single to left. Bryana Novegil walked to load the bases, before Fraccastoro pushed Evans across the plate with a sacrifice fly to center field, 1-0.

Landry started the sixth inning off with a single down the left field line and immediately advanced to second the next play thanks to a sacrifice bunt. One batter later, hit a single to center field scoring Landry and tried to advance on the throw to home, but Jaquez gunned her down at second and ended the inning, 2-0.

The Huskies were finally able to get on the board in the sixth inning. With two outs and junior shortstop Demi Janak on second, Nicole Shedd drove one out to right center for a double to score Janak, 2-1.
Down to their final outs, the Huskies were able to get a rally going in the seventh. Sikes sent Lotz walking with one out. Back-to-back singles by De Los Santos and Jaquez helped Lotz get all the way around to tie the game, 2-2.

After two scoreless innings for both teams, SFA ended the silence in the top of the fifth with a Fraccastoro homer to left field, 3-2.
 
Game Two, 2-1
Junior designated hitter Alyssa De Los Santos went 2-for-3, while senior centerfielder Kay Schroeder hit a solo home run.

Freshman Elliott Estes (4-14) got the loss allowing two runs on seven hits, two errors, one walk and one strikeout in seven innings.

Center fielder Madison Clements went 2-for-3 with a double and run scored. Third baseman Amber Landry drove in two runs off of a single. Margarita Corona doubled and second baseman Novegil singled and scored.  

Callee Guffey (6-8) earned the win in the circle only allowing one run on five hits, one error, a walk and nine strikeouts in 6.1 innings. Relief pitcher Makayla Sikes tossed the save in 0.2 innings.

Recap
SFA gained the lead early, as Clements hit a single to left with one out. Novegil reach first, after a hit by pitch. A batter later, runners were on second and third with two outs, when Landry drove in both with single through the right side.

The Huskies lone run came in the bottom the seventh with a Schroeder homer to left, 2-1.

HBU concludes the three-series Sunday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at Husky Field.
