HOUSTON – HBU softball dropped a couple Southland Conference games to Nicholls Friday at Husky Field.
GAME ONE, 3-2
Sophomore
Heidi Jaquez and freshman
Sierra Humphrey went 2-for-4 at the plate with doubles for the Huskies (2-9, 0-2 SLC). Humphrey had two RBIs and Jaquez had scored twice.
Freshman
Jessica Patak (1-5) got the loss allowing four runs off seven hits, six strikeouts and three walks.
Amanda Gianelloni went 1-for-3 with a walk and a homerun, while Jewel Lara went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while Bailey Hughes doubled and scored.
Megan Landry pitched all seven for the Colonels (12-7, 2-0 SLC) only allowing two runs off five hits, four strikeouts and two walks.
In the third inning, Hughes led off with a double, but advanced to third on an error by Shedd. One batter later, K. Clement singled up the middle, scoring Hughes, 1-0.
The Huskies answered back in the fifth, as Jaquez doubled down the right field line with two outs.
Sierra Humphrey followed with a double down the left field line to score Jaquez, 1-1.
Nicholls immediately scored again with a lead-off homerun by Gianelloni in the top of the sixth.
In the seventh, back-to-back singles for the Colonels and a walk loaded the bases with no outs. A ball got passed Jaquez to score a run. Patak retired the next two on strikeouts, but a passed ball pushed a across a Colonels, 3-1.
The Huskies put one on the board after Jaquez reach on an error by the first baseman and Humphrey hit a single to score Jaquez, but couldn't extend the rally, 3-2
GAME TWO, 9-3
Junior
Demi Janak went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Senior
Nicole Shedd also doubled a scored for the Huskies.
Senior
Stephanie Buenrostro (0-4) got the loss allowing two runs off 13 hits in 6.0 innings.
Kasey Frederick hit a perfect 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Bailey Hughes and Samantha Mrachich each went 3-for-5 for the Colonels. Mrachich had two RBIs and scored once, while Hughes hit two doubles, had an RBI and a run scored.
Alexis LaBure earned the win allowing one run off three hits, one walk and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
The Huskies conclude the series Saturday with a 12 p.m. start.
