HOUSTON – UTSA scored four runs in the eighth inning to escape with a 6-5 victory over HBU in non-conference baseball Tuesday afternoon at Husky Field.
Senior righthander
Marshall Herron took a no-decision after allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks in seven innings. Junior
Hunter McClellan allowed three runs, one earned, on two hits with a walk and did not record an out, while senior
Weston Smart (0-1) took the loss, allowing an unearned run on a hit with a strikeout in two innings.
Senior third baseman/leftfielder
Spencer Halloran went 1-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored, while junior catcher
Erik Voller also drove in a run for the Huskies (9-16).
Kyrell Miller (1-0) picked up the win for UTSA (12-10), allowing an unearned run with four strikeouts over the last four innings. Starter Jordan Rodriguez gave up two run in one-plus innings, while Andre Shewcraft allowed two unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Dylan Rock went 3-for-5 with a home run, while Trent Bowles went 1-for-5 with a double and two RBIs for the Roadrunners. Bryan Arias walked and scored twice.
Senior shortstop
Tyler Depreta-Johnson drew a walk in the first inning and Halloran followed with an RBI double to leftcenter. HBU extended its lead to 2-0 on Voller's sacrifice fly in the second.
UTSA answered with a two-run double by Bowles to tie the game in the third, 2-2.
In the fourth, junior leftfielder
Jake Scott single and Voller reached on catcher's interference. Both runners scored when Depreta-Johnson reached on an error for a 4-2 HBU lead. The Huskies added a run in the seventh when Halloran was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on an error on the play, then scored on a wild pitch.
Rock led off the eighth with a solo home run to left, then Chris Estrada walked and Chase Keng singled. Both runners scored to tie the game when Arias reached on an error, then Ryan Stacy doubled to leftcenter to give UTSA the lead.
The Huskies host Lamar in a three game Southland Conference series Thursday through Saturday at Husky Field. Thursday's opener and Friday's game both begin at 2 p.m., while Saturday's finale starts with a 1 p.m. first pitch. The YouTube video broadcasts with
