FRESNO, California – HBU got on the board in the first innings, but was shut down the rest of the way as Fresno State claimed the non-conference baseball series finale, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at Bob Bennett Stadium.
Senior second baseman
Jack Fitzgerald reached safely three times, going 1-for-2 with a walk and hit by pitch for the Huskies (3-5). Senior leftfielder
Spencer Halloran singled and scored, senior shortstop
Tyler Depreta-Johnson singled, while senior first baseman
Jake Pulcheon drove in the lone run.
Junior righthander
Daniel Endsley (0-2) allowed three runs, two earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in six innings, while junior righthander
Hunter McClellan allowed a run on three hits and struck out four in two innings.
Korby Batesole, Carter Bins, JT Arruda and McCarthy Tatum -- the two through five hitters for the Bulldogs (7-2) – each had two hits. Bins and Tatum each doubled and scored, while Emilio Nogales drove in a pair of runs.
Lefthander Jaime Arias (2-0) held HBU to one run on two hits with two strikeouts, no walks and hit three batters. Ryan Sullivan tossed two shutout innings and Jamison Hill earned his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Halloran led off the game with a single, then went to third on Depreta-Johnson's single to left. The Huskies scored on Pulcheon's RBI groundout, but didn't get another hit until Fitgerald singled in the ninth.
Tatum doubled and later scored on a wild pitch in the second. Nate Thimjon scored on Jeremiah Burks' RBI single in the fourth. Nogales laid down a safety squeeze to plate Arruda in the fifth, then had an RBI single to bring home Batesole in the seventh.
The Huskies return to action when they travel to face 10
th-ranked Texas A&M Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Blue Bell Park in College Station.
