CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The HBU women's soccer team clinched its spot in the Southland Conference tournament two weekends ago and is now playing for a chance at the No. 2 seed as the Huskies face off against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders Friday evening at the Dugan Soccer and Track & Field Stadium.

The Huskies (9-7-1, 7-2-1 SLC) are currently in third place, one point behind Lamar, and can finish no worse than third thanks to holding the tiebreaker over both McNeese and Abilene Christian. An HBU win along with a Lamar tie or loss in the final game of the season would result in the Huskies earning the second seed at the SLC tournament. For Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (5-8-3, 2-6-2 SLC), a win on Friday is necessary for the Islanders to have a chance at qualifying for the tournament.

On the road last weekend, the Huskies split a pair of games Lamar and McNeese with sophomore Noor Abukishk and senior Baylii Bieke each scoring their first goals of the season for a 2-1 win in double-overtime. Senior Sabriah Spencer was credited with an assist on Abukishk's goal and now has five goals and five assists on the year to lead the team in both categories for 15 points.

The Islanders come into the final game of the season having lost five-straight games in which they have been out-scored 15-3. On the season, TAMUCC is 3-4-2 on its home field. Sophomore Mariah Ramon is the team leader in goals, with three. Kyleigh Hall, also a sophomore, has seen a majority of the minute in goal for the Islanders with 12 games started, a 1.51 goals against average and a save percentage of .750.

HBU is undefeated all-time against the Islanders, owning a 4-0-1 record. The draw came at the end of last season in the form of a 0-0 tie at Sorrels Field.

The SLC tournament begins on Wednesday, Oct. 31, with the semifinals set for Friday, Nov. 2 and the championship game on Sunday, Nov. 4.
