HOUSTON - HBU will host Sam Houston State in the Huskies' final home series of the season in a three-game Southland Conference set Friday through Sunday at Husky Field and presented by Houston Federal Credit Union. HBU will honor 10 team members on Senior Day Saturday prior to the game.
 
HBU (23-20, 15-9 SLC) is tied for fourth in the league, one game behind second-place and defending conference champion SHSU (32-17, 16-8). The video and audio broadcasts with Russ Reneau begin with the pregame show 15 minutes prior to each first pitch. Saturday's broadcast will be audio only, due to conflicts with commencement ceremonies.
 
Senior centerfielder Zane Otten and junior shortstop Tyler Depreta-Johnson are each hitting .331 to lead the Huskies. Depreta-Johnson has hit safely in 20-straight SLC contests, while Otten has stolen a base in nine of the last 11 league games. Junior leftfielder Spencer Halloran is hitting .319 with 11 doubles, four triples, three home runs, 25 RBIs and 36 runs, while junior first baseman Jake Pulcheon is hitting .275 with eight extra-base hits and leads the team with 26 RBIs. Senior rightfielder Brandon Brintz is hitting .305 with 10 doubles, a home run, 23 RBIs, 30 runs and leads HBU with a .377 batting average in conference play.
 
The Huskies will send senior righthander Addison Russ (2-4, 2.99 ERA), senior lefthander Christian Thames (6-3, 4.23 ERA) and sophomore righthander Daniel Endsley (2-2, 2.04 ERA) to the mound. Sophomore righthander JT Newton leads HBU with 19 appearances out of the bullpen, sporting a 6-0 record with six saves, 1.62 ERA, 37 strikeouts and seven walks.
 
Blake Chisolm leads SHSU with a .336 batting average with 12 doubles, three triples, three home runs, 26 RBIs and 31 runs. Bryce Johnson is hitting .333 with 10 doubles, four triples, 30 RBIs and 45 runs, while Hunter Hearn is hitting .333 with five doubles, four triples, two home runs and 32 RBIs. Andrew Fregia bats .330 with eight doubles, five triples, five home runs, 34 RBIs and 35 runs. Clayton Harp is hitting .297 and leads the Bearkats with 36 RBIs.
 
The Bearkats are likely to start righthander Heath Donica (7-1, 1.91 ERA), lefthander Kyle Backhus (3-3, 3.50 ERA) and righthander Hayden Wesneski (8-2, 3.67 ERA). Nick Mikolajchak leads the Southland with nine saves.
 
The Huskies will be on the road for their final regular season series against Stephen F. Austin May 18-20 in Nacogdoches, Texas. The 2017 Southland Conference Tournament will be held May 24-27 at Constellation Field in Sugar Land.
