NEW ORLEANS, La. – The HBU men's and women's track & field teams will head to Tad Gormley Stadium located in New Orleans' City Park for the 2017 Southland Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Friday through Sunday, May 12-14.
The Huskies boast two of the top four times in the 800 meters this season, with
Daniel Shelton second in the conference with a school-record time of 1:49.86 and
Cody Hammonds fourth at 1:51.24. Shelton's time is less than a second behind Sam Houston State's Jeffrey Moore.
Jamal Kemp set a new program best mark in the 100 meter dash at the Texas State Bobcat Classic for the ninth-best time in the conference.
Hammonds ranks eighth in the 400 meters with a program record mark of 47.80 while
Brandy Thomas, also with a new school record, has posted a top time of 55.84 for the seventh-best time in the Southland.
HBU has been strong all season in jumps, with a trio of freshmen all finding their names on the program record list in the high jump.
Quillan Haughton, who placed third at the SLC Indoor Championship, and
Iyanu Adeyeye have both reached a height of 2.03m/6-8 in their inaugural season at HBU for the fourth-highest height in the conference. On the women's side,
Samara Hodges tied the program record with a jump of 1.67m/5-5.75. Hodges is also fourth in the conference while fellow freshman Taylor Kollmorgen is fifth in the league at 1.65m/5-5.
Tay Nance posted the third-best distance in the triple jump at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight meet last month, posting a mark of 12.26m/40-2.75.
Austin Williams, with a distance of 14.85m/48-8.75 is currently eighth in the men's triple jump.
In the long jump,
Michelle Linton and
Taylor Thomas have posted the fourth and sixth-best distances, with Linton recording a PR of 6.04m/19-9.75 and Thomas reaching 5.97m/19-7. On the men's side,
Von Beaudoin is fifth in the SLC at 7.29m/23-11.
Briana O'Brien ranks in the top-ten in a pair of throwing categories. The junior is fourth in the discus with a school record toss of 44.77m/146-10 while her mark of 46.28m/151-10 in the hammer throw places her ninth in the league.
The meet will begin Friday, May 12, morning with combined events beginning at 9:30 a.m.
