SAN MARCOS, Texas –
Tay Nance and
Oscar Garcia earned wins in the respective events while
Jamal Kemp,
Cody Hammonds and
Daniel Shelton set new school records on Saturday afternoon at the Bobcat Classic in the Huskies' final track meet heading into the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships.
Garcia paced the field in the 5,000 meters, posting a new personal record time of 15:22.43 and winning the event by more than 10 seconds. Nance, meanwhile, earned the win in the triple jump with a wind-aided distance of 12.09m/39-8. Coming in second was
Michelle Chukwujekwu with a wind-aided mark of 11.91m/39-1.
Kemp broke the school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.45, taking second place in the event and finishing just .07 seconds behind the winner.
Raymond Chukwuma finished ninth with a time of 10.80 while
Justin Carmouche recorded a new PR of 11.27.
In the 400 meters, Hammonds bested the previous program record with a time of 47.80 to place fifth. Meanwhile,
D'Anthony Graham set a new PR with a time of 48.92 to finish 11
th. Shelton broke his own record in the 800 meters, placing second with a mark of 1:49.86.
Juan Fraga took 10
th in the event, crossing the finish line in 1:56.12.
The Huskies' freshman high jump duo of
Quillan Haughton and
Iyanu Adeyeye placed second and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Haughton cleared 2.00m/6-6.75 while Adeyeye's best was 1.95m/6-4.75. On the women's side,
Samara Hodges finished eighth with
Renee Gentle taking ninth with both clearing a height of 1.60m/5-3.
In throwing events,
Chantel Ward tied her own school record of 13.44m/44-1.25 in the shot put for a fourth place finish.
Imani Jacquet finished 11
th in the event with a distance of 12.10m/39-8.5. On the men's side,
Craig Nealey recorded a personal-best distance of 12.65m/41-6 to place 13
th.
Briana O'Brien took 11
th place in the discus throw with a top mark of 40.50m/132-10.
Austin Williams placed fourth in the men's triple jump, leaping 14.68m/48-2. In the 400 meters,
Milan Fisher recorded a new PR, crossing the finish line in 56.50 to finish fifth while
Gbemisola Orundami took ninth with a time of 57.59 and
Ericka Rodriguez finished 13
th, crossing in 58.52.
Ashlyn Dobson, competing in the 400 meter hurdles for the first time this season, placed eighth in the event with a time of 1:04.41. In the men's 110 meter hurdles,
Christian Guzman took fifth with a time of 15.30.
Shantelle Slaughter placed 15
th in the 200 meter dash, posting a time of 25.14 while
Brandy Thomas set a new PR in the event, finished in 25.32 to place 17
th.
In the men's 200, Kemp took seventh with a wind-aided time of 21.31 while Chukwuma came in 17, finishing in 21.59. The women's 4x400 relay team of Fisher, Rodriguez, Thomas and Jazmine warden post a season-best time of 3:49.29 to finish third.
Orlando Garcia came in 13
th in the men's 1,500 meters, finishing in 4:01.98. On the women's side,
Stephanie Aguilar finished in 4:57.86 to place 16
th while
Lauren Stockton recorded a new PR with a time of 5:02.05.
Ariel White also set a new PR in the 100 meter dash, crossing in 12:68.
HBU will close out the 2017 outdoor season at the Southland Conference Outdoor Championships at Tad Gormley Stadium in New Orleans, La. taking place May 12-14.
