HOUSTON, Texas – Freshman
Iyanu Adeyeye set a new school record in the high jump and the HBU track & field team posted six top-three finishes on day two of the TSU Relays on Saturday at Durley Stadium.
Sophomore
Tay Nance, the first-ever HBU freshman field competitor to qualify for NCAA regionals as a freshman last season, picked up first place honors in the triple jump with a distance of 12.02 meters. The Huskies' other first place finish came in the women's 4x400 meter relay with the team of
Milan Fisher,
Brandy Thomas,
Jazmine Warden and
Ericka Rodriguez recording a time of 3:51.03, more than eight seconds ahead of the second place team.
In the men's high jump, Adeyeye Iyanu posted a new best for HBU with a height of 2.01 meters to finish second with the best jump by a collegiate athlete at the event.
Quillan Haughton recorded a height of a 1.96 meters for third.
Jamal Kemp, a junior sprinter, posted a new personal best time of 10.56 in the 100 meter dash, good for a fourth place finish. In the women's 100,
Tambrisha Banks also finished fourth with a time of 11.98.
Austin Williams posted a new personal record in the triple jump with a mark of 14.85 meters, taking third place. HBU's final top-three finish came in the 4x100 meter relay as the team of Warden, Banks, Fisher and Thomas put up a time of 46.56.
D'Anthony Graham recorded a new personal best time in the 400 meters, placing seventh with a time of 49.96 while
Christian Guzman took sixth in the 100 meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 15.19.
Briana O'Brian recorded two sixth place finishes in a pair of throwing events, posting distances of 44.65 meters in the hammer throw and 41.70 meters in the discus.
The Huskies will take part in the Victor Lopez Classic, hosted by Rice University at Ley Track, taking place from Thursday, March 23, through Saturday, March 25.
