BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – HBU heads to the Birmingham CrossPlex for the Southland Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 22-23. This will be the fourth-straight year the conference has held its indoor meet in Birmingham, a location where nine current HBU school records have been set.
Freshman
Quillan Haughton heads into the meet having broken the school high jump record on multiple occasions, most recently with a height of 2.06 meters at the Dunamis Sports College Classic which places him fifth on the Southland performance list this season. On the women's side of the high jump, freshman
Samara Hodges recorded a new school record of 1.65 meters at the Houston Invitational, tying her for the fifth-best mark in the conference.
In the women's long jump,
Michelle Linton and
Taylor Thomas both enter the meet with top-10 marks in the conference. Linton recorded a jump of 5.70 meters at the Houston Invitational while Thomas reached 5.68 meters at the Dunamis Sports College Classic, good for sixth and eighth in the conference, respectively.
Tay Nance owns the eighth-best mark in the conference in the Triple Jump thanks to a school record jump of 11.80 meters at the Texas A&M Aggie Team Invitational while
Austin Williams' own school record jump of 14.72 meters at the Aggie Team Invitational ranks him ninth in the Southland.
Cody Hammonds owns the eighth-best Southland marks in a pair of events, the 400 meters and the 800 meters. Hammonds set a new school record in the 400 at the Dunamis Sports College Classic, finishing in 29.32, to go along with a personal-best of 1:54.05 in the 800.
Daniel Shelton ranks sixth in the conference in the 800 with a converted time of 1:52.75.
In the women's 800,
Kierstin Santana is sixth with a converted time of 2:14.56 at the Houston Invitational.
Oscar Garcia set a new personal best in the 5,000 meters at the Houston Invitational, finishing in 15:27.27 for the sixth-best time in the SLC.
The women's 4x400 relay team of
Milan Fisher, Santana,
Ashlyn Dobson and
Brandy Thomas ran the third-fastest time in the Southland at the Houston Invitational, completing the race in a converted time of 3:49.70.
The Southland Indoor Championships mark the end of the indoor season except for those athletes who achieve qualifying marks to take part in the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships being held in College Station, Texas on March 10-11.
