CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The HBU women's soccer team heads into the 2017 Southland Conference championship tournament aiming to defend its 2016 title and earn its third conference championship in four years. That title defense begins with Central Arkansas on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 5:00 p.m. at Jack Dugan Stadium on the campus of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
HBU (7-6-3, 6-3-2 SLC) heads into the tournament as the No. 5 seed, finishing one point behind first-round foe Central Arkansas (10-9-0, 7-4-0 SLC) in the final standings. In 2016, the Huskies won the tournament as the No. 4 seed.
During the regular season, HBU and Central Arkansas met in the Huskies' final road game of the season on Sunday, Oct. 15, with the Bears coming out on top 2-0. The two programs have split the six all-time meetings between them with both teams owning three wins.
Senior and second team All-Conference selection
Ellee Hall has netted eight goals on the season to lead the Huskies and tie for second-most in the conference. Throughout her career, Hall has been especially effective at the SLC tournament, totaling five goals and one assist in seven games. Her five game-winners this season are tied for 12
th-most in the nation.

Autumn Wildung, also a second team All-Conference honoree, was second on the squad with five goals, all of which came during Southland play. Fellow junior
Sabriah Spencer, an honorable mention All-SLC honoree, led the team with five assists which all came against Southland foes and tied for third-most in the league.

Alanis Guevara was 15
th in the nation in saves per game with 6.47. Guevara especially shined in Southland play, leading all conference goalies in both saves (70) and save percentage (.875) while her 0.91 goals against average was third in the league.
UCA has been led offensively by the trio of seniors Alex Moore and Dayna Mounie along with junior Ashley Smith. Moore has a team-best 12 points on three goals and six assists while Mounie and Smith each have four goals and three assists for 11 points. In goal, junior Lauren Mercuri and senior Anna Hughes have split time with Mercuri making 11 starts to Hughes' eight. The duo has combined for a 1.10 goals against average and an .807 save percentage while recording three shutouts.
The SLC tournament kicks off on Wednesday with four games scheduled and the first kicking off at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the HBU-UCA match will take on the winner of No. 1 Lamar vs No. 8 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday evening at 7:00 p.m.
