WSOC: Huskies Close Regular Season Against Islanders

HBU will recognize its five seniors prior to the season finale

HOUSTON – Friday night marks the end of the regular season for the HBU women's soccer team, in addition to being Senior Night, with the Huskies in fifth place in the Southland Conference standings and a move up as high as third a possibility when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi visits Sorrels Field at 7:00 p.m.
 
HBU (7-6-2, 6-3-1 SLC) has never lost to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-8-2, 3-6-1 SLC), holding a 4-0-0 all-time advantage in the series. The Huskies are 4-1-2 at home this season, out-scoring visiting teams 17-6. In their last outing, the Huskies took down conference co-leader McNeese, 3-2. HBU was the first team this season to score more than two goals against the Cowgirls, who entered the match having allowed just five goals all season.
 
HBU goalkeeper Alanis Guevara enters the final match of the season 12th nationally in save per game with 6.64. As a team, HBU is eighth in the country with 7.33 saves per game. Guevara also finds herself in the top-30 in the nation in total saves with 93.
 
Ellee Hall, one of HBU's five seniors who will be playing their final game at Sorrels Field, leads the team with 17 points on eight goals and one assist. She is third in program history with 59 points (23g, 13a), having finished every season of her career with at least 14 points. Her 23 career goals are fifth-best in school history and she's tied for first in career game-winning goals, with 10.
 
Junior Autumn Wildung is second on the team with five goals while Sabriah Spencer leads the squad with five assists along with a pair of goals. As a team, HBU is out-scoring opponents 24-20 on the season, 17-10 in the second half.
 
TAMUCC enters the final match of the season tied with Nicholls for eighth place in the league standings. The Islanders have been a much better team on the road this season, posting a record of 5-4-0 while going just 1-4-2 on their home field. Senior Brooke Erdmann's four goals are tops for the Islanders while Kaitlyn Joy is second in points with six thanks to two goals and two assists. Three goalkeepers have split duties for TAMUCC, combining for a 1.32 goals against average and a .798 save percentage.
 
HBU sits in fifth in the Southland standings with 19 points, just two points behind Stephen F. Austin and Central Arkansas which are tied for third. SFA plays at Sam Houston State on Friday while Central Arkansas visits Northwestern State. The top eight teams in the conference standings advance to the SLC tournament which begins on Wednesday, Nov. 1, in Corpus Christi, Texas.
 
The Huskies will be having a special Senior Night recognition ceremony prior to the start of Friday's game, taking a few minutes to honor Hall, Casey Basso, Jennifer Gebhardt, Katie Turner and Charlotte Vancura.
