HOUSTON – The HBU men's and women's golf programs' new Lucy McBride Practice Area was dedicated Wednesday evening at the facility.
The practice area is located between the main campus entrance on Fondren Road and Bank of America. The facility features an artificial turf tee box with room for five players, as well as portable mats which can be moved to different areas and distances. The distance from the tee box to the artificial surface green is 98 yards to the back and 78 yards to the front.
With Mrs. McBride and friends in attendance, President Robert B. Sloan Jr. said a prayer for the facility and a ribbon cutting ceremony officially opened the practice area. Both the men's and women's golf teams, head coach
David Shuster, assistant coach
Jordan Jeffers and Director of Athletics
Steve Moniaci attended the ceremony to welcome Mrs. McBride and her guests.
"This facility means so much to us," senior
Val Almendarez said. "For the last four years, we've been driving great distances to go to different courses to practice, but this will save us a lot of time, which will help us dial in on our short game. We cannot thank you enough for what you have done for our program and we know it will help us become stronger this year and for years to come."
