COLLEGE STATION, Texas –Behind three new school records, all in jumps, and numerous personal bests, the HBU men's and women's track and field teams placed 10
th and 11
th, respectively, at the Aggie Team Invitational hosted by Texas A&M to open the 2017 indoor track & field season.
Both the men's and women's triple jump records were broken with sophomore
Tay Nance eclipsing her own previous record of 11.68 meters with a new mark of 11.80 meters, good for a second place finish at the meet. Junior
Austin Williams set the new record for the men with a distance of 14.72 meters, more than a half meter better than the previous record of 14.12 meters. The third school record to fall on the day was in the high jump, where freshman
Quillan Haughton tied for third with a height of 2.04 meters.
In the long jump,
Taylor Thomas placed sixth with a jump of 5.51 meters while
Michelle Linton set a new personal best at 5.49 meters, good for seventh.
Briana O'Brien set a new personal record with a throw of 14.26 meters in the weight throw, placing 14
th.
Renee Gentle recorded a height of 1.57 meters in the high jump to place sixth.
Gbemisola Orundami recorded a sixth place finish in the 400 meters, crossing the finish line in 58.33 while
Tambrisha Banks put up a time of 25.49 in the 200 meters, placing eighth.
Kierstin Santana ran the 800 meters in 2:20.05 for seventh place and Stephenie Aguilar finished eighth in the mile with a time of 5:23.75.
For the men,
D'Anthony Graham finished the 400 meters with a new personal best time of 50.55. Another new personal record came in the 200 meters with
Jamal Kemp recording an eight place finish with a time of 22.08.
Jeremy Lewis ran the mile in 4:17.37 to place third and
Daniel Shelton took fourth in the 800 meters, crossing the finish line in 1:54.76.
Von Beaudoin finished the long jump competition in eighth with a jump of 6.64 meters.
The Huskies will return to action in two weeks at the Houston Invitational on January 27 and 28 at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on the University of Houston campus.
