HUNTSVILLE, Texas - HBU will wrap up the regular season with a three-game Southland Conference baseball series at Sam Houston State Thursday through Saturday at Don Sanders Stadium. The top eight schools advance to the Southland Conference Tournament in Sugar Land, with the Huskies entering the series in ninth.

For the Huskies to earn a spot in the tournament, they must sweep Sam Houston State or win two games and have Southeastern Louisiana sweep Central Arkansas or Lamar sweep Stephen F. Austin or Nicholls sweep New Orleans. HBU cannot make the tournament with one win.

The Huskies (24-26, 12-15 SLC) are led by senior first baseman
Andrew Alvarez, who is hitting .319 with 10 doubles, two triples, one home run, 23 RBIs and 21 runs, while senior second baseman
Greg Espinosa is hitting .318 with 10 doubles, one triple, 17 RBIs and 29 runs. Senior shortstop
Louie Payetta is hitting .301 with 11 doubles, 23 RBIs and 30 runs and junior third baseman
Austin Zillweger is hitting .303 with five doubles a home run, 11 RBIs and 11 runs.

Christian Thames (3-5, 3.55 ERA) and junior righthander
Addison Russ (8-5, 3.38 ERA) to the mound. Senior closer
Dylan Zarosky (2-4, 1.80 ERA) has set the Huskies' single-season record with 10 saves and is the school's career leader with 19.

The Bearkats (34-19, 21-6) enter the series one game out of first in the standings and are led by Bryce Johnson, who is hitting .363 with 10 doubles, a triple, two home runs, 27 RBIs and 45 runs. Matt Broadbent is hitting .324 with four doubles, a triple, a home run, 22 RBIs and 14 runs. Zach Smith is hitting .291 with 14 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBIs and 26 runs.

SHSU is expected to send righthanders Riley Gossett (6-0, 2.99 ERA) and Heath Donica (8-3, 3.41 ERA) to the hill Thursday and Friday and have not settled on a starter for Saturday. Greg Belton (4-1, 3.02 ERA) is tied with Zarosky for second in the league with 10 saves.
