BSB: HBU Faces TAMU-CC in Final Home Series

Huskies to honor 12 seniors in their last games at Husky Field.

HOUSTON - HBU will play its final home series of the season when it hosts Texas A&M-Corpus Christi this weekend at Husky Field in another Southland Conference baseball matchup critical to the Huskies' hopes of earning berth in the conference tournament.
 
Senior second baseman Greg Espinosa has reached safely in 13 straight and is hitting .314 with nine doubles, a triple, 16 RBIs and 26 runs, while senior shortstop Louie Payetta is also hitting .314 with 11 doubles, 22 RBIs and 28 runs for the Huskies (23-24, 11-13 SLC). Senior first baseman Andrew Alvarez is hitting .296 with nine doubles, two triple, a home run, 18 RBIs and 18 runs, while junior third baseman Austin Zillweger is hitting .315 with five doubles, a home run, nine RBIs and 11 runs.
 
HBU will send redshirt freshman righthander Zach Carter (2-3, 5.73 ERA), junior lefthander Christian Thames (2-5, 3.77 ERA) and junior righthander Addison Russ (8-4, 3.36 ERA) to the mound. Senior closer Dylan Zarosky (2-3, 1.91 ERA) holds HBU's single-season saves record with 10 this year and the career record with 19.
 
TAMU-CC (16-31, 5-19) is led by Casey Thomas, who is hitting .323 with three doubles, six triples, 19 RBIs and 31 runs, while Zacarias Hardy is hitting .318 with nine doubles, three triples, three home runs, 31 RBIs and 20 runs. Zack Gibson is hitting .280 with six homers, 24 RBIs and 35 runs and Dawson Yates is hitting .288 with five doubles, two home runs, 11 RBIs and 10 runs.
 
The Islanders are expected to start righthanders Chris Cooper (1-3, 3.70 ERA) and Devin Skapura (3-7, 3.43 ERA), followed by lefthander Chris Falwell (2-5, 3.24 ERA). Nolan Holland (2-1, 2.80 ERA) leads TAMU-CC with five saves.
 
The Huskies enter the series tied for ninth in the SLC standings, one-half game behind eighth-place McNeese, one game behind seventh-place New Orleans and two games behind Central Arkansas. The top eight teams advance to the SLC Tournament at Constellation Field in Sugar Land May 25-28.
 
Friday's opener begins at 11 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. start Saturday and a 2 p.m. first pitch Sunday. The HBUTV and Legacy Sport Network broadcasts with Russ Reneau begin with the pregame show 15 minutes prior to the first pitch and can be accessed on HBUHuskies.com. As this is the final home series for HBU's 12 seniors, Saturday's Senior Day festivities will begin at 12:40 p.m.
