April 6Husky Field • Houston, TexasLive Stream | Live Audio | Live Stats HOUSTON – The HBU softball team returns to action and opens a four-game homestand, hosting Texas State in a 3 p.m. non-conference tilt on Wednesday at Husky Field.

The Huskies, 4-6 at home, are looking to snap a nine-game losing streak. HBU last won in a 10-6 decision on March 18 at Northwestern State.
Senior pitcher
Laci Belovsky leads the Huskies in the circle, owning a 6-11 record and 4.59 ERA through 22 appearances and 17 starts. Belovsky has logged a staff-best 12 complete games, with 39 strikeouts across 108 and a third innings pitched.
At the plate, senior third baseman
Shay Orsak leads the team with a .341 batting average. Freshman shortstop
Savana Guidry (.325), who owns a team-high 10 stolen bases, and sophomore utility player
Libby Brown (.318) are also hitting above a .300 clip, respectively.
Freshman second baseman
Demi Janak leads HBU with a .519 slugging percentage, four home runs and 15 RBI. She is tied with Orsak for the team mark with six doubles.
The Bobcats enter Wednesday with a 23-15 overall record, riding a four-game losing streak, under 15-year head coach Ricci Woodard, who is assisted by USA Olympic medalists and National Pro Fastpitch players Cat Osterman (retired) and Kelly Kretschman (active). Last week Texas State fell 3-2 at Texas
(RV), before being swept at No. 4 Louisiana-Lafayette 7-0, 5-2 and 3-0.
The Bobcats, who rank last in the Sun Belt with a .237 team batting average, are led at the plate by senior second baseman Kelli Barker (.328) and sophomore shortstop Ariel Ortiz (.302).
In the circle, sophomore pitcher Randi Rupp leads the Sun Belt Conference and ranks sixth in the country in wins (16). Rupp also leads the league in innings pitched (142.2) and ranks second, fourth nationally, in strikeouts (191).
Rupp (2.01) and junior Quincy Charleston (2.10) rank fourth and fifth in the SBC in ERA, as the staff collectively sits third (2.30).
The Huskies trail the all-time series 5-0, falling 10-0 in five innings to Texas State in the LA Tech Invitational earlier this season on February 19.
Following the weekend, HBU will return to Southland Conference play and host Stephen F. Austin in a two-day, three-game series starting April 8.
