BSB: HBU Faces League Leader SELA This Weekend

Defending tournament champion Huskies hit the road to take on defending regular-season champion Lions.

HAMMOND, Louisiana - HBU hits the road to face league leader Southeastern Louisiana in a three-game Southland Conference series this weekend at Pat Kennelly Diamond at Alumni Field. Friday's opener begins at 6 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. start Saturday and a 1 p.m. first pitch in the finale Sunday.

Junior third baseman Austin Zillweger leads the Huskies (19-20, 9-9 SLC) with a .318 batting average, five doubles, a home run, nine RBIs and 11 runs. Senior second baseman Greg Espinosa is hitting .308 with nine doubles, a triple, 15 RBIs and leads the team with 23 runs, while senior shortstop Louie Payetta is hitting .299 with nine doubles, a team-leading 22 RBIs and has scored 22 runs.

HBU is expected to send junior lefthander Christian Thames (2-4, 3.33 ERA), junior righthander Addison Russ (6-3, 2.82 ERA) and redshirt freshman righthander Zach Carter (1-2, 4.74 ERA) to the mound. Senior closer Dylan Zarosky (2-3, 2.22), who is HBU's all-time leader with 17 career saves, ranks second in the SLC and has tied the Huskies' single-season record with eight saves this year.

Jameson Fisher leads SLU (28-13, 15-3), hitting .446 with eight doubles, a triple, nine home runs, 43 RBIs and 36 runs, while Brennan Breaud is hitting .318 with five doubles, a triple, a home run, 20 RBIs and 39 runs. Carson Crites is hitting . 314 with eight doubles, a triple, six homers, 24 RBIs and 31 runs, and Webb Bobo is hitting .298 with four doubles, two triples, five home runs, 33 RBIs and 18 runs.

The Lions are likely to send lefthander Kyle Cedotal (4-4, 2.01 ERA), righthander Mac Sceroler (7-2, 2.11 ERA) and lefthander Domenick Carlini (4-1, 2.07 ERA) to the hill. Kade Granier (3-0, 0.33 ERA) leads SLU with six saves.

SLU leads the all-time series against HBU, 5-2, including all four meetings last season. The Lions went on to win last year's regular season title, while the Huskies claimed the tournament championship. The Huskies took two-of-three from the Lions in the last series played in Hammond in 2014.
