BSB: SFA Salvages Series Finale From Huskies

Junior 3B Austin Zillweger goes 3-for-4 with 2B, HR, 2 RBIs for Huskies.



HOUSTON – Stephen F. Austin's bats got off to a hot start, then got going again late to claim the Southland Conference series finale over HBU, 15-3, Saturday afternoon at Husky Field.
 
Junior third baseman Austin Zillweger went 3-for-4, hit the first home run of his HBU career, doubled and drove in a pair for the Huskies (18-17, 9-6 SLC), while senior second baseman Greg Espinosa went 2-for-4 with a double and scored.
 
Matthew Dickey went 2-for-5 with a triple and drove in four runs for the Lumberjacks (17-20, 6-12), while Slayton Vaughan went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs. Tyler Boxwell was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run, Zac Michener went 2-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and scored twice and Nick Ramos was 2-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
 
Patrick Ledet (3-1) picked up the win for SFA, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in six innings. Seth Campbell and Tyler Starks held the Huskies scoreless over the final three.
 
Redshirt freshman righthander Zach Carter (1-2) took the loss, giving up seven runs on six hits with one strikeout and four walks in 2.2 innings. Senior Brody Toal threw five scoreless innings in relief, striking out six, before running into trouble in the ninth and allowing three runs.
 
The Lumberjacks jumped out to a 10-0 lead scoring four runs in the first and three each in the third and fourth innings. Michener had a two-run double in the first, Vaughan followed with an RBI double and Boxwell singled to center. Dickey unloaded the bases with a triple in the third and Michener added another RBI double in the fourth.
 
Zillweger got the Huskies on the board with a two-run blast over the leftfield wall in the fourth, and junior centerfielder Joe Van Marter plated senior leftfielder with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.
 
The Huskies return to action when they travel to face UTSA in a non-conference contest Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Roadrunner Field in San Antonio. The Legacy Sports Network audio broadcast with Russ Reneau will begin at 5:45 with the pregame show and can be accessed on HBUHuskies.com and LSN.
